Innovative Advancement in Coated Fabrics that’s Environmentally

Responsible, from The Mitchell Group

CHICAGO – Sta-Kleen Silicone™ is The Mitchell Group’s new high performance fabric that’s engineered to be environmentally responsible, announced Bill Fisch, president. www.mitchellfauxleathers.com

The fabric is Mitchell’s latest product in its faux leather collection, that’s designed for the healthcare, hospitality, contract, and other commercial markets requiring a fabric to withstand demanding applications. The fabric has a published Health Product Declaration (HPD), and has been accepted into the Healthier Hospitals Initiative--Safer Chemicals Challenge.

“Sta-Kleen Silicone is produced through a one-stage casting process that uses far less energy than a traditional PVC casting process,” said Fisch. “The fabric is environmentally responsible in the following ways; the manufacturing process uses zero solvents, contains no polyvinyl chloride (PVC), plasticizers, phthalates, heavy metals, or stabilizers. No VOC is released and there’s no air pollution. The process also uses little water, which significantly reduces energy required to recycle the water that in some cases also lead to pollution,” said Fisch.

In fact, Sta-Kleen Silicone doesn’t have any chemical flame-retardants, or toxic by-products. It is RoHS and REACH compliant, and qualifies for both LEED v4 and LEED MR Credit 5.

Overall, the fabric exceeds the Association for Contract Textiles’ (ACT) performance standards for commercial grade upholstery. Moreover, Sta-Kleen Silicone is inherently stain resistant, chemical disinfectant resistant, mildew resistant, hydrolysis resistant, UV resistant, denim dye resistant with superior cold crack performance. The fabric delivers the highest Colorfastness to Light rating of any coated fabric on the market today, said Fisch.

Designed to last the life of the furniture, the fabric will initially be offered in one pattern: Silex, a solid pattern in 35 colors.
